Breakfast Sessions

Adventure Queens is a UK based, women’s adventure community – set up with the aim of delicately smashing down the barriers that prevent women from heading off on adventures.
“We provide practical information, tips and advice on all things wild camping and the great outdoors. Little by little, bit by bit, Adventure Queens is helping women from the UK and beyond have the confidence to get out there and get WILD. We will be getting WAExpo 2018 off to a grand start with a networking, icebreaking adventure buddy finding session. WAExpo attendees are welcome to join us for some early doors fun at 8.30am in the We The Curious café before heading upstairs to WAExpo. See you there!”

Attendees are welcome to attend Hatha based flow Yoga with Holly, sponsored by Boundless Betty, all abilities and levels are welcome. Based on a first come first served basis, maximum 35 attendees. Get your WAExpo day of to a chilled start, morning Yoga starts at 8:45am sharp, until 9.30am at We the Curious. Holly is a yogi, snowboarder, writer and photo journalist from the UK. “Yoga for me isn’t just about stretches and pretty postures for our Instagram (although I am partial to a good ‘yoga for the gram’ picture every now and again - guiltyyy) it’s about being able to sit with oneself and our breath, to breathe fully, move slowly and consciously. I also believe yoga should be fun and full of magic, we’ll flow to music and play on our mats, try new things, face fears and wobble and try and try again, all hopefully with some deep breaths and big smiles! My intention when holding a class is that my yogis are taking full, meaningful and conscious breaths, combined with strong and grounding asanas (postures). I truly believe with the breath and body in balance this can extend to a balance of the mind, gifting ourselves the clarity and power to shape and build the life we want”.
*Refreshments
Food and drink
This year we are excited to be working with 91 Ways to bring delicious lunch options for our attendees and promote this amazing Bristol organisation. We have also negotiated with venue-caterers Elior to offer a plastic-free sandwich lunchbox. Water and juice will be available throughout the day from ‘Hydration Stations’ so please remember to bring your reusable water bottle or keep-cup. Teas and coffee will be provided at lunchtime and afternoon break.

91 Ways is a new initiative supported by a diverse group of individuals and organisations including the Bristol Initiative Charitable Trust. Our aim is to engage everyone across Bristol to build a better, more united, sustainable city. Our events use the uniting power of food, to bridge the gaps between Bristol’s 91 language communities, in order to build a more united and sustainable city.
We know that the choices we make about how we eat have a direct impact on our quality of life and our environment. 91 Ways will allow people to share their stories, personal food journeys, recipes, and passions, to build understanding between communities. We want to help people make better decisions about their food and well-being to improve the health and sustainability of our city.

We have been working with Elior - the in-house caterers at We The Curious to give WAExpo attendees the option of a plastic-free, sandwich lunch box. This consists of a round of sandwiches, loose crisps and a piece of fruit.

WELLBEING CAMP OUT
As part of WAExpo 2018, ipsewilderness are offering a wellbeing camp-out to a tribe of hearty adventure women, hosted by wilderness therapy organisation ‘ipse wilderness’. This is an evening of sharing, discussion and activities around the theme of well-being and wilderness, all taking place in the magical Brown Rock Woodland just outside Bristol.
After a hearty shared meal around the campfire, there’ll be invitations to explore some wilderness therapy activities, to take part in group discussions and to brave a night walk in the woods, followed by games, story-telling and fire-side conversation. In the morning, we’ll do some yoga and take a moment of mindfulness in the woods, with the backdrop of glorious views over the sea to the mountains of Wales, before heading back into town for breakfast at WAExpo. A wonderful way to continue the conversation around adventure and well-being, to connect with like-minded women, and to find some peace in the wilderness to reflect and recharge.

MAPS AND MOUNTAINS FOR BEGINNERS - postponed to a later date tbc
Element and WAEXPO are combining to offer this practical day and the key to more adventure. You’d like to get out and into some wilder country but feel that you don’t have the map skills or full confidence to stride out. This is a great day where we ‘take the map for a good walk’ to start to understand the basics of navigation.
You’d like to get out and into some wilder country but feel that you don’t have the map skills or full confidence to stride out. You’d like to become more at ease with planning a walk and using an Ordnance Survey map. This is a great confidence-building, enjoyable and informative day walk for you. There will be the chance to have a map and be guided to follow our progress at various intervals when we are out walking all day in beautiful mountain country. We will also ask for your input and there are frequent stops to absorb information and check out features along the route.
This isn’t a day where we are spending all day grappling with a compass with our ‘heads in the map’ – but it is a day where you get the chance to understand where we are, feel more confident about planning and attempting a walk and to be talked through features so you begin to understand and feel more confident with maps and route planning.
We will be walking a hill as part of the route. The walking is not technically rough and if you have a basic level of walking fitness you will be able to undertake the day. This isn’t a mountain marathon and we will be enjoying the walk, nature and the landscape too.
