Women’s Adventure Expo is a social enterprise that champions women in adventure. We are the founders of WAExpo - the UK’s first Adventure and Travel Expo dedicated to women. Our mission is to celebrate, inspire and empower women in adventure and exploration, connecting people and organisations, making adventure more inclusive and accessible for all women.

ABOUT US

OUR FLAGSHIP EVENT WAEXPO - Back in 2020

WAExpo is a conference style event with parallel sessions of mainstage talks and workshops, plus exhibitors, and plenty of networking. The event centres around quality engagement and positivity. While definitely women-focused, the event is not women-only, men are very welcome to join us and participate. Guests are welcomed as individuals and encouraged to share aspirations and find kindred spirits. We provide a unique experience where women interested in adventure find inspiration, discover resources, make connections, and offer solidarity. Our events will help equip you to push your own boundaries and grow in confidence. WAExpo speakers are also highly accessible at our events, and available to chat with you and answer your questions.

We’re taking a break from organising WAExpo this year, and will be back with a new event in 2020.

PROJECTS

Our latest work

True to our Mission Statement, Women’s Adventure Expo CIC have dedicated resources to understanding some of the specific barriers for women’s participation in outdoor activities. Setting us apart, we use the words Inclusivity and Accessibility not as the latest buzz words, rather they are words ingrained in our ethos, purpose and vision.

Our current initiative MMIEEP (Managing Menstruation in Extreme Environments Project), is a long-term research project which aims to identify and explore issues around menstruation in extreme or challenging environments around the world. The project aims to produce practical information and guidance for women and girls. We hope the project activities will encourage solidarity between women, and promote their health and wellbeing in the context of outdoor activities and adventure travel.

This summer we are participating in the Social Impact Internship Scheme with a research project exploring perceptions of adventure among women from ethnic minority communities in Bristol. This will gather first hand views, opinions and experiences, exploring what ‘Adventure’ means to women from different cultural backgrounds, potential barriers to participation, and possible opportunities for enhancing access and inclusivity in our own activities and more widely.
